For over 50 years, Judy Blume has defined YA literature, especially for girls. Davina Pardo and Leah Wolchok’s new documentary, Judy Blume Forever, began streaming on Prime Video starting April 21, 2023. Big Blue Marble Bookstore in Philadelphia played host to a Prime Video screening on April 20, a celebration of Blume’s impact on U.S. pop culture and her decades-long fight against censorship. Lorrie Kim ordered fruit and vegetable trays from Weavers Way co-op and a book cake from Night Kitchen Bakery that lovingly recreated the 1970s cover of Blume’s classic YA, Forever…
Books and Blooms, a business creating floral arrangements inspired by literature, designed a tribute to Kath’s long white nightgown in Forever… It’s white brushed nylon with angel sleeves and little heart-shaped buttons. Every Books and Blooms arrangement includes a bookmark with a handwritten quote. The Forever… arrangement represents Kath’s girlish youthfulness, but with a passionate red core that represents her sensuality as a woman as well. The heart-shaped locket recalls both the buttons and Kath’s necklace. What a gorgeous tribute to a book that meant so much to readers and still holds up today.
In the arrangement: roses, carnations, bleeding hearts, freesia, gerbera daisy, chrysanthemums, tulips, sweet william, star of Bethlehem, Queen Anne’s lace, hydrangeas and more.
Thank you to Judy Blume for 45 years of friendship, letters, and encouragement. See articles in Slate.com and the Philadelphia Inquirer (paywalled).
